AskTrecie: Spray Tan Fading After Shower...HELP!

Question:
I got my body tanned yesterday and got told that I should wait two hours after to shower but less then 3. I waited 2 and a half and then showered. I may just be seeing things but i nearly look back to the color i was before I tanned around my body. my face looks tanned and arms but body doesn’t. HELLPP? Did I do something wrong when I showered?
Answer:
Spray tans contain an ingredient called DHA (dihydroxyacetone) which reacts with the amino acids in the skin to produce the perfect color.  Before your tan, a solution that removes the oil from your skin should have been applied as to allow the product to penetrate your skin.  Most recommend allowing the solution to set on your skin for 8 hours (best to be sprayed at night and let it develop overnight) then shower in the morning.  Also, you should have been warned that the color that you are after you are spray tanned is a guide color which allows the tan specialist to see where they have already applied the solution.  After you shower, you should see a visible difference, but it will not be the tone that it was when you were first tanned.
I hope this helps!! Happy Tanning!!
XOXO,
Trecie
